Descrição: Em linhas gerais de um projeto mais amplo que o autor vem desenvolvendo ao longo da última década. É uma história global de escravidão e outras formas de trabalho dependente empregado na economia cafeeira na longa duração. Pretende explicar brevemente o caminho percorrido com as preocupações que têm impulsionado o trabalho coletivo promovido por este Centro (Cluster of Excellence Bonn Center for Dependency and Slavery Studies).
Na tentativa de compreender a escravidão africana nas Américas sob o prisma da comparação histórica e mais recentemente, a investigação da política da escravidão no Brasil e em Cuba entre 1790 e 1850, bem como os ambientes construídos e as paisagens do século XIX plantações de escravos no Brasil, em Cuba e nos Estados Unidos. E o lugar do brasileiro no sistema escravagista dentro da história mais ampla da escravidão moderna.
