Descrição: A oferta ao paciente de uma dieta específica e adequada às suas necessidades nutricionais, em condições higiênico-sanitárias satisfatórias é fundamental para uma evolução clínica favorável. Assim, o suporte nutricional enteral, caracterizado pela administração de soluções nutricionalmente completas, por infusão direta no estômago ou no intestino delgado por meio de cateteres é utilizado como uma terapia de rotina para pacientes com necessidades nutricionais especiais. Ainda, a TNE deve abranger obrigatoriamente as etapas de Indicação e Prescrição, Preparação, Conservação e Armazenamento, Transporte, Administração, Controle Clínico e Laboratorial, assim como monitoramento do paciente. Além disso, a terapia nutrição parenteral (TNP) consiste na infusão intravenosa de nutrientes diretamente na circulação sistêmica, visando a manutenção da homeostase corporal. As formulações devem conter os nutrientes necessários para o consumo diário de energia do paciente como carboidratos, minerais, vitaminas, lipídios e aminoácidos. A TNP, quando bem aplicada, trata-se de um recurso extremamente importante na manutenção e/ou melhora do estado de saúde de pacientes no âmbito hospitalar.
