Objetivos
The student must be able to:

1. Apply Design Thinking approach and methods to conceptualize solutions aiming to solve complex problems
2. Apply advanced digital and physical prototyping tools to materialize proposed concepts
3. Present and apply approaches for concept selection and prototype testing with end users
4. Develop concepts generated previously to complete working prototypes
5. Prepare and deliver presentations of the proposed solutions for users, potential partners, and general public
6. Screen Intellectual Property (IP) databases and analyze prototypes' potencial for IP and to elaborate detailed description of IP request

Ementa
In this course, students apply design thinking and user centered design approaches throughout the course in order to develop a working prototype. There is a strong focus on advanced prototyping.

This discipline contributes to the development of the following course competencies:
Competency 1 – Analyze physical phenomena with the aid of models
Competency 3 – Manage the implementation of engineering solutions
Competency 6 – Research, innovate, and entrepreneurship

And the following related skills:
402. Understand and apply techniques for designing products, services, and businesses;
502. Design and make feasible the production of products, services, and businesses;
409-509. Understand the concepts and methods of project management to plan, execute, and control engineering and management projects;
205-504. Understand and apply the fundamentals of engineering (mechanical, chemical, electrical, structures, and materials) in solving engineering and management problems.

Instrumentos e Critérios de Avaliação

Método de Avaliação
The course consists of practical classes and a team assignment – a product design based on a real and complex multidisciplinary problem. The project should result in a technically and economically viable solution. The project deliverable is a working prototype and the corresponding engineering documentation. The student's overall assessment consists of the evaluation of the prototype and its documentation and an individual grade of in-class activities and exercises.
Critério de Avaliação
Average of prototype, report and exercises grades
Norma de Recuperação
No remedial work.
