Esta disciplina tem como objetivo fornecer aos estudantes uma compreensão aprofundada das dinâmicas históricas da Ásia, explorando seus ordenamentos sociopolíticos, as interações entre centros e periferias, as redes de comércio e diplomacia, bem como os principais debates historiográficos sobre a região. A abrangência cronológica da disciplina, a depender da temática abordada estende-se, aproximadamente, do início da Era Comum ao Período Contemporâneo. Ao longo do curso, os estudantes serão incentivados a analisar criticamente as estruturas políticas e culturais dos diferentes contextos asiáticos, reconhecendo suas especificidades e suas interconexões ao longo do tempo. Para isso, serão abordadas questões como a formação e manutenção de impérios, as dinâmicas de guerra e expansão territorial, os sistemas de castas, clãs e famílias, além das filosofias que fundamentaram diferentes formas de governo e organização social.Outro aspecto central será a investigação das culturas materiais e dos sistemas de escrita, compreendendo seu papel na preservação e transmissão do conhecimento. A disciplina também examinará a Ásia em sua inserção nas globalizações, desde as rotas comerciais da Antiguidade e da Idade Média até o impacto da modernidade e da industrialização.Do ponto de vista historiográfico, os alunos serão desafiados a refletir sobre as múltiplas cronologias utilizadas para narrar a história da Ásia e sobre os debates em torno da “Grande Divergência”, que questionam as razões para o predomínio europeu na economia global a partir do século XVIII.Ao final do curso, espera-se que os estudantes sejam capazes de relacionar diferentes períodos da história asiática, interpretar criticamente fontes e bibliografias sobre o tema e compreender a Ásia como um espaço dinâmico e heterogêneo, essencial para a formação do mundo moderno.
Estudos dos processos políticos, sociais, culturais e econômicos, a partir da reflexão sobre conceitos, categorias, eventos e estruturas relativas a tais processos, combinando a análise de linhagens historiográficas pertinentes e de fontes primárias em diversas linguagens, visando à formação do historiador como pesquisador e como docente.
