Docente Responsável:

Professor:

Claudia Momo

Objectives:

To provide the student the knowledge about the techniques of photodocumentation on necropsy of small and large and wild animals, with an emphasis on photodocumentation of necropsies involving cases of medico-legal interest in small and large animals, wild animals from traffick and large animals with life insurance. Also, show the correct way of collecting biological material, maintaining the chain of custody and preparing the autopsy report.

Justificativa:

Rationale:

Forensic veterinary medicine is a scientific field that has been growing rapidly in recent decades, following the increase in social awareness and the adaptation of existing legislation related to the punishment of crimes committed against animals. The legal necropsy has the purpose of clarifying the cause of death in case of suspicion of death from an unnatural cause. In addition, it aims to determine the type of death (accidental, non-accidental, natural or indeterminate), indicate the post-mortem interval and how the death occurred. The necropsy with expert purpose aims to establish the series of events that triggered the death of the animal, maintain complete records with evident evidence, such as photographs, videos and radiographs of the corpse, the in situ lesions and their anatomical relationships, in addition to establishing an objective and impartial proposal of diagnosis and cause of death. Therefore, in view of the above, the need for a discipline that shows how photographs are taken during an autopsy is justified.

Type of Assessment:

The final grade for the course will be calculated using the formula: Final grade = (seminar evaluation × 0.3) + (directed study evaluation × 0.7) The final grade will be transformed into a final grade, as follows: - Grade A: Excellent - from 9.0 to 10; - Grade B: Good - from 8.0 to 8.9; - Grade C: Regular - from 7.0 to 7.9; - Concept R: Failed by grade, less than 7.0 and/or by frequency, when less than 75%.
